3 factors inspired Elgin Blueher to start this website – traveling, photography and universals.
Traveling – Countries and cultures are like puzzles – made up of uncountable pieces finally forming a picture. Each of these small pieces adds to how a culture ticks: people, architecture, history and scenery are the obvious ones. But there is more – the way of living, politics, noises, street life, smells, music, housing, language, transport, jobs. And last but not least there are these ‘little cultural things’ – small gestures, customs, things used by people and much more. All these small pieces make up how a culture FEELS like. In the past 30 years Elgin traveled as much as what is possible besides a regular job plus enjoyed a few long-term stays abroad – Africa, Americas and a lot of Asia – to see how cultures tick and feel.
Photography – All travels were done with a camera in the backpack. Obviously thousands of photographs returned home in this backpack – a pity if they would stay idle in some cabinet or srap book.
Universals – Cultural universals are common across cultures, countries, religions. Concepts, customs and habits practiced everywhere in the world, things used by people across the planet – in different yet similar ways. Cultures have so much more in common than what is dividing them.
Inspired by the concept of cultural universals, mountains of photographs and the curiosity for other cultures, it needed Covid-19 to make for sufficient time to start this website.
Enjoy and share!
