Taxilogue - Ireland - Dublin

Nassau Street to Malahide Road

Dublin | Ireland | JAN 2020

Driver looking Indian

Are you from India?
No, I am actually from Pakistan.
There are quite a few Indians here in Ireland.
Well, actually not too many. Just here in Dublin. Outside Dublin you won’t see many Indians. Also the Pakistani community is very small. Where are you coming from?
Germany.
I see – is there also this Corona virus in Germany?
Well, 4 or 6 cases as of now.
Is it like in one region or across the country?
It’s in Bavaria and it’s one guy working for a company with branches in China – he had contracted the virus from a colleague who was in China for training. He also infected one of his kids, I think. But they are all in hospital and well cared for. German government is even flying out about 100 German citizens living in Wuhan.
Oh, really?
Yeah – I think they arrived today or yesterday. They will be held in quarantine for about 2 weeks in a military compound.
Wow – that critical?
Well, not critical – it’s just that they have all the facilities there; they have a hospital on site and space for 100 people as no hospital would have space for 100 people on such a short notice. And they need to keep them in one place.
I see – there is a Pakistani community in Wuhan…
Really?
Oh yeah – they are studying medicine – it’s quite popular for Pakistani people to study in China.
Wow.
So, yeah – they have to stay at the hostel and have asked Pakistani government to fly them out to Pakistan.
Hm.
But the government said no – they might bring the virus to Pakistan.
So, rather stay there? In Germany there would be complaints if government would deny to fly people back home – they are responsible for their citizens!
Yeah – see, in China they have the capability to treat the virus – we in Pakistan, we don’t have that.
Hm, true. So, what did you bring to Ireland?
Work, I guess. [laughing]
