Skinny men, heavy bulk loads and the hustle and bustle of Indian streets. Porters. The heavy bulks on their shoulders, on carts, on bicycles – pushed and carried through crowded streets and narrow bylanes at 35 degrees.
These porters are covering the first or last leg in a logistics chain – ‘the first or last mile’. Picking up or delivering the freight at the customer before being loaded on a truck for further transport. With India on the ‘modernization road’, will the first or last mile still be covered by ‘manual porting’ or rather by modern small vans or else?
